280Z curb weight of 2,875lb. L28E/5spd weight of 523lb. LM4 dressed weight of 400lb (with heavy-ass flywheel). T56 weight of 125lb.

I'd say around 2,800lb.

280z curb weight: 2875lbs (source wikipedia )
L28E weight with trans: 530lbs (source classiczcars.com )
Figure the LM4 weighs about the same as a LS1: 500lbs (source ls1tech.com )
T56 weight: 135lbs (source ls1tech.com )
Bumper weight: 85lbs (source zcar.com )
Random shit (mounts etc): 25lbs
Total: 2875-530+500+135-85+25 =2920lbs.

Should be somewhere around there.

Well it was just an educated guess. No way could the car weigh 2700-2800 stock so I figured after an aluminum transplant you had lost a bit. My goal is sub 2700 lbs in my Fox.

2300-2400 Specifically 2380. :)

The 280zx may have been 2800lbs, but the 240/260/280 was not. My '73 240 weighed in at 2180 and my early '74 260 was 2240. A 280z was injected with bigger bumpers and would have come in at 2400lbs. LS vs. L28 is nearly a draw, so the t56 would put another 50lbs on the original 4 speed. If this thing is done right, it should be well less than 2500lbs.

your numbers are wildly off, unless you're talking about dry weight or something. The 280z's curb weight was over 2800lbs

Nope, like I said I owned 2 of the same body style...just small bumper, no heavy injection, and no cat as the only real differences.

Even a 2+2 doesn't weigh 2800. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/body-pa…

No AC, no bumpers, no sound deadening, no cats, no center console, engine components removed. Hardly stock. The stock curb weight is 2875lbs.

I think IDROVEAPICKUP has got a good figure there.

What wheels has it got, and what tyres? Could be lighter than the stock ones.

Any brake upgrades?

http://ls1tech.com/forums/introdu… . 2650...with Ac. Granted it still has bumpers which the op's car did not.

Thinking about it, I didn't run bumpers back in the day on my 240 or 260. I did spot another difference between the 240/260 and the 280...the R200 diff. That would have accounted for a bit more, but the bulk of it though was in the crazy shock absorber style bumper mounts.

A stock 280z has a curb weight of 2875 from the factory. Period. This is the manufacturer spec. You are wrong. Pulling up the weight of a tuner 240z does not change what the stock curb weight of the vehicle is.

Was original curb weight of a 280z the OP's question?

No, but this swap increases the weight of the vehicle, even with going from iron to aluminum. Your numbers were wildly off, and they you tried to claim they were not. You claimed that the heavier 280z if done right with the swap should be "well less than 2500 lbs" then you post an already swapped lighter 240z that has been weighed at 2650 lbs. I did all the math elsewhere on this post. The final weight should be somewhere around 2900lbs.

Kinja'd!!! Casper > DatASSun

Kinja'd!!!0

You have to weigh it when it's done so we know. I'll throw my guess in at 2660lbs. The "factory" weights were really wacky for those cars, but I know my 240Z fully decked out was under 2400 and my stripped car was under 2100 with full fuel.

Kinja'd!!! IDROVEAPICKUPTRUCK > Casper

Yes, it weights slightly less. L28 with tranny weighs about 530lbs. LS1 with T56 weighs about 630lbs fully dressed.

I guess this is where we would need details. There were a lot of different transmissions offered from 74+. The T5 was extremely popular on the L28 and L28ET cars, so I was going by that one, which is about 10 lbs heavier than a T56 according to what we weighed for shipping.

I mean reverse. I don't remember a huge difference between the two, but the T56 was a bit more expensive to ship.

None of the numbers do. We weighed my 71 240z stripped out and it was a little over 2200 lbs with me in it. My 73 was about 2400 lbs but the OEM sticker said 2300ish. What do you think your car should weigh?

Here's a good thread on some of the places the weight comes from:
